Sebastian Stan Didn't Expect 'the White Wolf Situation' for Bucky Barnes

Spoilers ahead if you're the one person who has yet to see "Black Panther."

Marvel threw Sebastian Stan a curveball with the post-credits scene of "Black Panther."

Stan's character -- James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes -- has been the Winter Soldier up to this point. But thanks to Shuri's help in the time from "Captain America: Civil War" to the end of "Black Panther," he's not only free of his conditioning, he's now known as the White Wolf.

That quick little note in the post-credits marked a big shift for Bucky. The White Wolf is a Marvel character -- it's the name given to a white man named Hunter who grew up in Wakanda after his parents died in a plane crash there. Hunter was ultimately adopted by King T'Chaka, and became known as the White Wolf.

But now Bucky is the White Wolf. In the comics, Bucky has a different future that could still happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sounds like SebStan might've been expecting *that* storyline instead of White Wolf.

Sebastian Stan just had a great little video interview with Kinowetter -- alongside Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Letitia Wright (Shuri). During the chat, they talked about the comic book source material, and Stan segued into talking about the White Wolf:

"Now, talking about comic books and merging them with the MCU, I want to go back and revisit the Black Panther comics because of the White Wolf situation and that's a whole different line, so I didn't even see that really going that way and understanding what that could be. But it's really clever the way they do it, if you think about it. I look at that and go, 'Of course. That makes sense, that feels well.' I don't know how they think about it."

Check out more from that interview:Sebastian Stan also noted that his post-credits scene in "Black Panther" was originally longer (via CinemaBlend):

"There was something really actually funny about that scene. It's definitely better the way it is now, I think. But that scene was at least 8 more minutes long than what we saw. And it was like a more inquisitive Bucky. He was kind of really going, 'Why do they call it these?' And [Shuri] was telling him a little about it, and they kind of walk in a direction, and then he walked over and started hanging out with elders and playing with the kids, but you don't see that."

There's a good chance we'll see some of that when "Black Panther" arrives on Digital May 8, then Blu-ray/DVD on May 15. Extras will include deleted scenes and featurettes, and of course a gag reel.

Bucky will be back as White Wolf in "Avengers: Infinity War," which opens in theaters April 27.
