Practicing yoga is something that many people do or think about, but have you thought about doing it at 40º Celsius? Ok, it can be easy in summer if you live in southern Spain, but Bikram Yoga is a practice you can do all year round in a room equipped for it.

What is Bikram Yoga?

This yoga modality was created by  Bikram Choudhury, hence its name. It is about carrying out 26 postures, controlling the breathing and under a suffocating heat that will help you to develop a greater mental control.

Classes usually last 90 minutes and begin with a breathing exercise. Then follow standing postures, balance, sitting postures and stretching, with a final exercise of breathing. The Bikram Yoga is performed in a room with heat mainly to preheat the muscles, prevent injuries, help improve flexibility and cleanse the body thanks to a strong elimination of toxins.

Who can practice it?

It is not necessary to be an amateur in the world of yoga, you just have to feel like it. It is a discipline aimed at people who want to lose weight, but you have to be careful to know how to tolerate heat and humidity.
If you are one of those who dehydrates easily, think twice as normally the monitors set time to drink water and thus maximize training.

What benefits does it provide?

As we have said, you will lose weight and stay in shape and also thanks to sweating jets you will be detoxifying your body and increasing resistance and flexibility.
Doing sports in a room under about 40-42º, keeping a deep and firm breath makes the body warm up to an impressive temperature. When our muscles are warm enough, deeper stretches will be made to work and develop flexibility.

It is important that you know where your limit is and go demanding your body little by little. Other benefits that you will obtain will be:

  • Improve strength of your spine
  • It reduces stress
  • Improves vitality, energy and relaxation
  • Increases blood circulation
  • Keeps the joints in shape and prevents injuries
  • Strengthens the muscles around the joints
  • Improves strength and stimulates the immune system
  • Strengthens bones

Before your first class…

It is necessary that you know that it will be a hard training, but that at the end you will have the sensation of being in the clouds. This is due to the release of endorphins, which also occurs in high-intensity workouts.

You will spend a lot of heat and you will sweat the fat drop, so wear little clothes and make it breathable fabric. Also, do not forget to hydrate properly before you start and take a bottle of water with you. Of course, grab a microfiber towel that absorbs sweat well and does not become heavy.
