Nutrition is undoubtedly a very important part when it comes to cancer treatment. Eating proper foods before, during and after a treatment will help us feel better and our body will be much stronger in coping with cancer.
Fortunately, we have a wide variety of foods that become authentic allies and protectors against cancer because of their anticancer properties.
The active compounds of some of them prevent the growth and proliferation of tumor cells, such as vitamin A of carrot, tomato lycopene or strawberries, indoles present in cabbages; carrot or peach vitamin A ; citrus flavonoids, anthocyanins and phenols from grapes or eggplants or luteolin from melon or spinach.
Let’s not forget that leading a healthy lifestyle – including diet – is crucial to not developing any of the many types of cancer that exist, since between 20% and 25% of malignant tumors could be avoided with a proper diet.
Although surprising, considering the numbers of patients we are considering today, cancer is a disease that has affected the human being for centuries. Tumors have even been found in fossils of Egyptian mummies or references to them in writings of thousands of years like the Papyrus of Egypt Ebers.
Some of the usual foods whose properties can protect against cancer are, among others: extra virgin olive oil, tomato, broccoli, wheat, soy, turmeric, pomegranate, mushrooms, aloe vera, garlic, green tea, lettuce, spinach, beans, walnuts, oranges and lemons.
To avoid: Avoid overeating meats (they have a lot of cholesterol) and foods with many: fats and calories, coffee, sweeteners and preservatives.
