Nintendo leaves Zelda’s timeline open to the imagination

Aonuma stated that they do not take that detail with such rigor

For many fans, the timeline of the games has great importance, especially considering a series from the general point of view; that is why there will always be someone who is aware of the concordance between each delivery and a historical line. In that sense, The Legend of Zelda is one of the series that has given more to talk about, for its complicated timeline and location in the history of each adventure, and 2 of its main developers spoke on the subject.

In an interview by GamesRadar, Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi, they referred to Zelda’s timeline after the release of Hyrule Historia a few years ago and this year’s debut of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fujibayashi started by acknowledging the importance of the theme for the fans but, on the other hand, there is no need to define the existence of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the timeline: “I would not say we are not worried about the timeline Obviously we know it’s something important for the fans and they do a lot of research, but I think we’re not in a moment where we have to talk about Zelda’s location : Breath of the Wildin the history. I think it’s something that, currently, we leave for the imagination of the people. ”

On the other hand, Eiji Aonuma declared that, although an official record of the history of Zelda already exists , it is not an issue that is dealt with rigorously, nor that it puts to Nintendo in a dilemma on details that could or not, correspond perfectly to the timeline: “We publish a book with the timeline and still receive comments like” Is that really right? “The story is also about imagination and that is what we left to the person who wrote the book, we prefer to approach in that way and not necessarily We think when developing a game whether or not it fits perfectly with the timeline, honestly, we are afraid to speak in exact terms about the location of things in that line and we better leave it to the imagination of the people most of the times ”

What do you think about the statements of Aonuma and Fujibayashi? Are you an enthusiast of the time lines of the games?
