Wojtek Wolski has come a long way and he could not be happier to have been selected by Hockey Canada to participate in the Olympic tournament in Pyeongchang, South Korea, in February.
A year ago, the Polish-born Canadian was bedridden due to a fractured neck.
“Today, I am so proud and excited to be selected by the Canadian team,” said Wolski on Instagram after Hockey Canada’s announcement. I look at a photo of me at the hospital dating from a year ago to the day and I can not help crying. They are mostly tears of joy, even if [I feel] different emotions.”
“I would never have imagined that I would be so lucky a year later,” added Magnitogorsk’s Metallurg player. I want to take this opportunity to thank those who supported me during my convalescence. Without my family and friends, I would not be cured today.”
Wolski concluded his touching message by naming specific people, including his wife, as well as various members of the medical team who took care of him at the hospital.
