One of the most popular messaging applications after the almighty WhatsApp, Telegram, would be preparing the launch of a blockchain platform and its own cryptocurrency, as published exclusively by Cointelegraph. Citing nearby sources, they say the platform will be called Telegram Open Network (TON), while the currency will be called Gram.
The first information about the new platform came to light a few hours ago by the hand of a man who claims to be an old worker of the organization. Anton Rozenberg, that’s his name, made public an extensive message on his Facebook profile in which he claimed to have received confirmation about the rumors that spoke of a supposed ICO integrated into the application.
In his text he points out the supposed name of the project and provides a link to what he says is an advertising video of this initiative. The video was hosted on a Telegram channel, but it has also been uploaded to YouTube.
Financing beyond Telegram
Cointelegraph explains that the Telegram Open Network currency will be called Gram, as we have said, and that the platform will be natively integrated into “many of the most popular messaging applications”, although without specifying. Finally, they point out that the network will use “light wallets”, so it would not be necessary to download a heavier and complex block chain.
Pável Durov, who has been contacted by the media, has not commented on it yet, but based on some of his past statements it would not be unreasonable to think that a similar project fits into his plans for Telegram. Telegram Open Network and Gram would seek to monetize the service, fulfilling two of the creator’s promises: not to sell it and not to show ads.
It should also be noted that Telegram has won the favor of the community around the cryptocurrencies and the blockchain, according to Durov’s own statement to Bloomberg : “The whole community of the block chain and cryptocurrencies has just switched to Telegram”. I would not have to have a hard time to begin with.
