At Microsoft, they are clear that the future of applications lies in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). We have already seen it in the case of protection against threats in the form of viruses and malware and now it is the turn of Cortana, the virtual assistant created by Microsoft to compete with Siri, Google Assistant and especially Alexa.
Cortana is one of the pillars of Redmond and a good example of the care they have with their assistant is the redesign they prepare for the arrival of Redstone 4 on PC and how they have optimized its use on the portable platform and to further improve Cortana, the AI will apparently be something fundamental.
We have seen in an event dedicated to artificial intelligence in which Redmond stressed the importance of Cortana and how both the assistant, and the Office 365 services, will see great improvements through the use of AI.
It highlights for example the possibility that we have with Cortana to establish a much more natural conversation. The interaction with the user will be improved so that Cortana will be able to understand the context of the conversation and link messages in a much more natural way.
In fact, from the second 40 of the video, we see how this new way of proceeding of the virtual assistant is revealed thanks to the use of Artificial Intelligence. Cortana will understand the context and make recommendations and give advice to improve our daily activity.
Office 365 improvements
Not only Cortana will be benefited by the arrival of Artificial Intelligence and so we will see how Office 365 also sees improvements. News that will debut with a preview version of Excel Insights with new functionality that will allow discover trends, outliers and other useful visualizations in the spreadsheets.
This is “Preview”, a new service that automatically highlights the patterns it detects , which makes it easier for everyone to explore and analyze their data.
Word on the other hand will see how Artificial Intelligence arrives to help users make use of acronyms. A new feature of Microsoft Word called Acronyms. Based on machine learning, Acronyms helps people understand terminology commonly in their own workplaces.
Outlook will also improve its operation with the help of Cortana. So the virtual assistant helps users to keep up to date and for example to manage appointments, Outlook will now send a notification with directions for both driving and public transport taking into account the current location, the location of the event and the Real-time traffic information.
It also improves the ability to extract text from images automatically by facilitating the search of a wide range of content, including receipts and business cards. The text in the image search is currently being implemented and will be available to all commercial Office 365 subscribers by the end of December.
It is clear that the future passes through Artificial Intelligence and from Microsoft it is clear. We will see news in 2018 and here we will be to tell you.
