It was already detected months ago, but it has not been until now when the first users have perceived the integration of the send money by SMS function through the Android Messages app. It is one of the novelties with which the application comes as the inclusion of the Duo video call service has also been detected.
Android Police detected notable changes in the Android Messages app code months ago. News not yet visible, but listed as references in the lines of code of the application. Now these new features have been activated in their latest version V2.7, such as the ability to send or request money to your contacts. However, it is not the only post that there are other updates worth mentioning.
Sending money by SMS is now possible
In the Play Store there are already a good number of applications that allow you to send and receive money. There are more or less known, among which are the services of the bank or even PayPal. Apple also tests its own alternative through Apple Pay Cash, integrated into one of the latest Betas of iOS 11.2. On the other hand, we know that WhatsApp also works on payments through its instant messaging application.
Well, Google seems to be willing to follow the same trail of the rest with its own money transfer service. After the gradual diffusion of Android Pay all over the world, now the Android Messages app, the native Google app to send and receive SMS text messages, receives the ability to send money to our contacts, as well as to request it from them.
Although version V2.5 of the application already showed in the APK code clear references to this service through the association with Google Wallet , Android Police has been responsible for uncovering that the function send money by SMS is already active in the app of Android Messages. Of course, it seems that is not yet active for all users, but has been detected randomly in some smartphones.
Its operation, as denote the captures attached, is the same as if we send an emoji, message or photo. In the lower left part there is an icon in the form of a cross that gives us access to the different sections (emoji, stickers, images, location and voice notes). In it, now appears a dollar sign followed by the icons send money and request money.
So, we can perform any of these operations with all our contacts with just one SMS. It will include a link from which, once used, the transaction will be activated through Google Wallet. As we have indicated, the service appears randomly available in Android smartphones at random. Nor has it been described if this movement is related to the newcomer Google Assistant in Spanish, which was also said to have the same ability to carry out operations to send money to our contacts.
Similarly, the Android Messages app also receives the integration of Duo video calls. And it is that the service is now available through a shortcut icon in the upper right part of the interface, in which a symbol is placed in the form of a telephone. Pressing it, the user can initiate a call through Duo with the selected contact.
Currently, version 2.7 of Android Messages can be obtained in the repositories of APKMirror, although it is expected that the great G make its diffusion in the form of an update through Google Play.
