We present the five phones that anyone would want to give themselves, or, receive this Christmas. We have tried all of them, and whether by design, performance or functions, they stand out among all the releases of the year.

1. iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

Maybe in terms of innovation, iPhone cell phones are falling behind the competition, however, no one can deny its high quality.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are the first phones of the brand to have IP certification, which makes them resistant to water, and even submersible, however Apple does not recommend doing this.

The 16 GB version was removed in the new family, so you can choose between 32, 128 and 256 GB of storage. Since iPhone has never had a microSD card slot, this is a major change.

It should also be mentioned that now its sound is stereo, so the videos are more enjoyable when you do not have the headphones close by.

They no longer have a 3.5mm headphone jack, but the box includes a headset with Lightning input, as well as a 3.5mm Lightning adapter, in case you want to continue using your favorite headphones. This in practice is not as serious as the people on the Internet made it seem.

For everything else, they are still reliable phones in terms of camera and processing speed, although they also continue to have limitations with the battery.

2. Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge

If your intention is to make a perfect gift for Christmas, you cannot leave out the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, which are practically the same phone, with the same specifications, with the only difference that one has a curved screen and the other, flat

These smartphones, besides being beautiful, are powerful, and although they are not perfect, they do give optimal results in camera, battery, screen and processing speed. They are also water resistant, and thanks to their wider viewing angle than the iPhone, taking pictures underwater is much simpler.

Its battery has a liquid cooling system – used in high performance computers -, so they heat up less than other cell phones when several apps are running at the same time.

3. Moto Z

This was Motorola’s year in terms of innovation. While it is not the only modular smartphone on the market so far, it is the one that has best executed the installation of accessories that become part of your body. This is how we have a cell phone – already powerful in itself – capable of improving its sound, camera, battery, design and video playback capacity, with the help of Moto Mods.

Its AMOLED screen measures 5.5 inches and displays impressive clips and photographs, thanks to its 2K resolution.

Other features are: Gorilla Glass 4 glass to protect the display against scratches, Qualcomm 820 processor (one of the newest in the market), 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage, 13 megapixel main camera, front camera 5 megapixels with LED flash for selfies and fingerprint sensor.

Moto Z is one of the models that in 2016 left behind the traditional headphone input, to concentrate all connections to the USB Type C port. This feature has been the subject of much debate on this and other phones, in any way, seeks to be the standard of gadgets in the near future, as today is the microUSB 2.0 connection.

4. Huawei P9

Huawei is another brand that has been consolidated as one of the strong competitors in the mobile market, not only with its high-end phones, but with the versions that it launched in each of the price categories.

The Huawei P9 managed to differentiate itself from the competition by its main camera with double lens, which was made in collaboration with Leica. Thanks to this feature, it is possible to create blur effects in portraits and improve the contrast of your photographs in general.

5. HTC 10

A phone that could not be left out of the count is the HTC 10, which also took the caste with excellent specifications: 2K screen, Android 6.0 Marshmallow -update assured to Android 7.0 Nougat-, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, long-life battery 3000 mAh, USB port Type C and two of the best cameras we tested during the year, a main 12 megapixels and a front of 5 megapixels.

Although in megapixels their numbers are not as high as with other models on the list, thanks to the UltraPixel technology, which means that the camera has larger pixels for greater light perception, both the photographs of the main camera and those of the frontal, they come out with very good quality.

In general, it is an ideal phone for those who usually take pictures and download games with demanding graphics. As an extra, HTC offers in Mexico an insurance that protects the cell phone against water accidents or falls.
