Do not try to look for any face known in the image that heads this article: although there may be some other similar to famous actors and actresses, in reality what you are seeing are faces generated by artificial intelligence. Nvidia has presented in society the chilling results of its latest artificial intelligence project based on a technique called GAN (Generative Adversarial Network).
In reality, what Nvidia has given life are two different artificial intelligences: on the one hand there is artificial intelligence that is responsible for generating faces modified from real photographs of celebrities; then, what comes into play is the second artificial intelligence, which has as its only mission to verify that the face generated by the first does not exist in reality. In this way, Nvidia is able to give life to faces of people that seem real without the need for human intervention in between.
The artificial intelligence that Nvidia has trained for this task has been analyzing millions of photographs of famous people before giving life to each of the invented faces, and from the company point out that this system not only works with people, but can also be use to create surprisingly realistic results of landscapes or everyday objects that have been created artificially. In this video you can see this technology in action.
The technology that Nvidia has managed to develop still has its limitations, of course. For example, that the images created by this system can only have a maximum size of 1,024 x 1,024 pixels, and if they are analyzed more closely, in many cases it is easy to distinguish the fake faces from the real faces.
Artificial intelligence can even create music: Intel artificial intelligence creates its first music video clip
Among these advances in artificial intelligence and other improvements such as those that are about to reach the editing programs, it will soon become increasingly difficult to distinguish reality from fiction. Maybe the origin of the Matrix code is in a cookbook, but the world that showed us this movie may one day not be so far from the… reality?
