They call it the ‘sea of knowledge’, ‘the most beautiful library in China’, ‘Super Sci-Fi’… And they do not lack reasons. It has been the MVRDV’s fastest work to date, but no less shocking. Only three years have passed since the first draft of this project until its opening on October 1.
The rectilinear volume of the shelves create an immense ocean of books that is divided into five levels . The underground level contains spaces of service and storage of books. The ground floor , which is the main entrance and where the auditorium is housed, has reading rooms easily accessible for children and the elderly. The next two floors house more reading rooms, books and lounge areas. And the last ones culminate the building with meeting rooms, offices, computer rooms, music rooms and the most incredible: two terraces on the roof!
