The WhatsApp instant messaging service broke its record last year by registering 75,000 million messages worldwide , the specialized company VentureBeat reported Wednesday, citing sources from the technology company.
This brand, which exceeded its previous record of 63,000 million messages on New Year’s Eve 2016, was established by WhatsApp despite suffering a technical failure on December 31 that left many of its users in different parts of the world without service during about one hour.
A WhatsApp spokesman explained that among the 75,000 million messages that marked the new record include 13,000 million images and 5,000 million videos.
WhatsApp, which was acquired by the social network Facebook in 2014, has more than one billion registered users in more than 180 countries, according to the data provided by the company on its website.
